Archive for the Arcades Project

The Archive project is based in the city of Paris on the bank of the river Seine. The brief facilitates the original archives of the twentieth century Critical Theorist Walter Benjamin and particularly the authentic fragments of his unfinished and most substantial work, the Arcades Project. Other program requirements are an exhibition space, accommodations for visiting scientists and a library. The tight site in the dense historic centre of Paris as well as the the fragmental nature of Benjamin’s work became crucial for the space organization. The project challenges the fragmentary nature of the Arcades Project and question the problem of Archiving Information in an Information Age as well as the value of the authentic piece of Information.
